Force & Pressure Notes

• Every push or pull is called force.
• Force comes into action when an object interacts with another object.
• Force has magnitude and direction. Hence force is a vector quantity.
• Equal forces applied in opposite direction result in net zero force.
• Forces when implied in same direction add to each other, but when applied in opposite directions, they cancel each other.

• Forces applied on an object in the same direction add to one another.

i.e. F = F₁ + F₂

• If the two forces act in the opposite directions on an object, the net force acting on it is the difference between the two forces.

i.e. F = F₁ – F₂
