Peroxisomes

• These are small and spherical structures which are bound by a single membrane.
• They are generally found in the cells of the organs where oxidative type of reactions takes place like kidney and liver.
• They contain a special protein- enzyme known as catalase.
• This enzyme is involved in breakdown of hydrogen peroxide which if remains in body is highly toxic.

Function:

• It helps in detoxification process or the removal of toxic waste from the cell.
