The Shivalik class is one of the newest frigates of the Indian Navy and has the distinction of being the first class of stealth warships to be designed and built indigenously. It is a very capable platform and excels in all aspects of naval warfare.

Navy’s Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft Boeing P-8I Dedicated to the Nation

Giving a boost to the firepower and arsenal of the Indian Armed Forces, the Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar dedicated the Boeing P 8 I (Poseidon Eight India) Long Range Maritime Patrol aircraft to the nation on 13 Nov 15.

Aircraft Carrier: It is a warship with a full-length flight deck and facilities for carrying, arming, deploying and recovering aircraft, acting as a seagoing airbase. Aircraft carriers allow a naval force to project airpower worldwide without having to depend on local bases for staging aircraft operations. Thus aircrafts can be flown from the sea.

Submarines: It is a watercraft that is capable of independent operation underwater. They are especially used to infiltrate enemy sea without being detected and destroy the major ships of the enemies. Indian Navy basically has two types of submarines, Attack Submarines and Ballistic Missile Submarine.

Attack Submarine: Chakra (Akula II)-class, Sindhughosh-class, and Shishumar-class submarines, out of which the first one is nuclear powered and other two are conventionally powered. India has Arihant class ballistic missile submarine which is nuclear powered.

INS Astradharini joins the Indian Navy |
An indigenously built Torpedo Launch and Recovery Vessel ‘INS Astradharini’, was commissioned on 06th October 2015.

INS Astradharini will be used to carry out thetechnical trials of underwater weapons and systems developed by NSTL, a naval systems laboratory of DRDO. It is an advancedreplacement for Astravahini which was decommissioned on 17th July 2015

INS Kochi was commissioned on 30 Sep 15, the second ship of the indigenously designed and constructed Project 15A (Kolkata-class) guided missile Destroyers.

INS Kochi is packed with an array of state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, with a significant indigenous component. The ship has many lethal weapons to her credit which include the successful fitment of vertically launched missile system for long distance engagement of shore and sea-based targets.

The ship is one of the few warships of the world and the second in the Indian Navy to have Multi-Function Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar to provide target data to Long Range Surface to Air

A guided missile destroyer is a destroyer designed to launch guided missiles. Many are also equipped to carry out anti-submarine, anti-air, and anti-surface operations.

Vajrakosh is part of "Project Seabird"

Constructed by DRDO at the most strategic location in the West Coast, the naval missile base will store the long-range BrahMos missiles and armaments.

Naval units operating out of Karwar are required to be equipped with specialised armaments and missiles. These sophisticated missiles and ammunition require special storage facility and specialised servicing facilities. INS Vajrakosh will have all the required infrastructure and is manned by specialists to meet these requirements.

Indian Navy’s Biggest Destroyer, INS Visakhapatnam

Indian Navy’s new destroyer, Visakhapatnam, with enhanced capability to operate in nuclear, biological and chemical atmosphere launched in April 2015.

INS Visakhapatnam is the first of P15-B stealth destroyers.
|
This indigenously designed stealth destroyer will have state-of-the-art weapons, sensors, an advance Action Information System, in Integrated Platform Management system, sophisticated Power Distribution System and a host of other advanced features
|
It will be fitted with supersonic surface-to-surface missile system. The system enables the ship to engage shore-based and naval surface targets at long range making it a lethal platform for strike against enemy targets.

Destroyer: It is a fast and manoeuvrable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller, powerful, short-range attackers.
