INTRODUCTION

  • Earth is the only planet where life is possible due to the presence of basic resources required for the survival of living organisms.
  • Resources provided by nature that supports the survival of living organisms directly or indirectly are known as natural resources. These resources include air, water and soil/ land which are provided by the nature.

  • Such natural resources as well as living forms together constitute the environment.
  • The air that covers the whole of the Earth like a blanket is called the atmosphere.
  • Water covers 75% of the Earth’s surface. These comprise the hydrosphere.
  • The outer crust of the earth is known as lithosphere. It is the zone where soil and rocks rich in minerals are found.
  • The zone where all these three- atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere interact and make life possible is known as the biosphere.
