In - at a point within an area or a space

  1. There are three flies in the jar.

 

  1. The dog is in the hat.

 

Out - away from the inside of a place or thing

  1. The baby is trying to come out of the crib.

 

  1. The clown is out of the box.

 

Behind - at or towards the back of something or somebody

  1. Samir is hiding behind his father.

 

  1. A duck is standing behind the plant.

 

After - later than something

  1. The gymnast is posing after his performance.

 

  1. The groom is running after his bride.

 

Between - in the space separating two or more points, objects, people, etc

  1. My uncle flies between India and Sri Lanka twice every
    week.

 

  1. The bags weigh between 40 to 45 kilos.

 

Before - earlier than somebody or something

  1. We should always pray to God before our meals.

 

  1. The day before yesterday was Sunday.

 

Under - in, to or through a position that is below something

  1. Purab is reading a book under the tree.

 

  1. A crab is hiding under the rocks.

 

Over - downwards and away from a vertical position

  1. The light is hanging over the pool table.

 

  1. The birds are flying over the city.

 

Above - at or to a higher place or position than somebody or something

  1. We were flying above the clouds.

 

  1. Children above the age of 10 were not allowed for the class.

 

Below - at or to a lower level or position than somebody or something

  1. He dived below the surface of the water.

 

  1. Water is not boiled below 100 degree.

 

On - in or into a position covering, touching or forming part of a surface

  1. I have a pop singer's poster on my wall.

 

  1. He had been hit on the face.

 

Up - towards or in a higher position

  1. They pinned the notice up on the wall.

 

  1. He lives up in the mountain.

 

Down - to or at a lower place or position

  1. I watched as the sun went down.

 

  1. The class settled down and he began the lesson.

 

Top - the highest part or point of something

  1. She filled my glass to the top.

 

  1. He climbed to the top of the hill.

 

Bottom - the lowest part of something

  1. The book she wants is right at the bottom.

 

  1. I found his gift at the bottom of my bag.

 

Upside down - the top facing down and the bottom facing up

  1. The trapeze artist is swinging upside down.

 

  1. The gymnast is standing upside down.

 

In front of - in a position that is forward than something but not very far away

  1. He spends all day sitting in front of his computer.

 

  1. The bus stops right in front of our house.
