A PREPOSITION also shows the direction from where a person (noun/pronoun) or a thing is coming or where the noun/pronoun is going.

Examples:

  1. My sister is coming from the florist’s.

 

  1. The boy is going to college.

 

  1. We are going towards the airport; we can drop you.

 

  1. The boy went up the stairs.

 

The prepositions ‘in’ and ‘at’

AT – Smaller places or villages.

IN – Larger places like big towns, cities, states or countries.

Examples:

  1. I met my friend in Mumbai.

(Mumbai – big city)

 

  1. We are going to meet at Mac Donald’s.

(Mac Donald’s – small place)

 

  1. My friend was waiting at the bus-stop in the village.

(bus-stop < village. Hence AT for bus-stop and In for village)

 

  1. We stayed in Agra for a few days.

(Agra = area, the city)

 

  1. Our train stopped at Agra for ten minutes.

(Agra = station, a point)
