Use of BESIDE / BESIDES

BESIDE = by the side of / next to

Example:

  1. Teresa planted the saplings BESIDE each other.

(beside = next to each other)

 

  1. Mona is skating BESIDE Roger.

(beside = by the side of Roger)

 

BESIDES = in addition to / as well as

Examples:

  1. The watermelon is tasty BESIDES being juicy.

(Besides = in addition to)

 

  1. BESIDES being just the king is also generous.

(Besides = just as well as generous)

 

Use of ‘IN TIME’ / ‘ON TIME’

IN TIME = within a comfortable time span; not late

ON TIME = at the exact hour; neither late nor early

Examples:

  1. You are well IN TIME for the music concert. (comfortable span)

  2. The concert will begin right ON TIME. (at the exact hour)
