Interrogative pronouns:

To interrogate – to ask questions

Interrogative pronouns – What – Who – Whom – Which

Examples:

  1. WHO is walking on the road?

 

  1. WHAT is everybody watching?

 

  1. WHICH is that lovely colourful bird?

 

  1. WHOM do you think he is talking to?

 

  1. WHOSE is this umbrella?

 

Difference between interrogative pronoun and interrogative adjective.

Examples:

  1. WHICH bird is that?

(Which – followed by noun. So Adjective)

 

  1. WHICH is that bird?

(Which = Interrogative pronoun as no noun follows)

 

  1. WHAT game is being taught?

(What – followed by noun. So Adjective)

 

  1. WHAT is being taught?

(What = Interrogative pronoun as no noun follows)

 

Reflexive Pronouns:

To reflect – to turn back upon

The pronouns in which the actions done by the subject reflect upon the subject.

 

Words like – myself – himself – herself and itself are singular

reflexive pronouns.

 

Words like – ourselves – themselves – yourselves are plural

reflexive pronouns.

 

Examples:

  1. He made that snowman HIMSELF.

 

  1. The teacher taught us the sums HERSELF.

 

  1. Let us make some toast for OURSELVES.

 

  1. You should feel ashamed of YOURSELF for such hair.

 

  1. The singers have composed the music THEMSELVES.

 

Emphatic Pronouns:

Emphasis = to show force

Words like – myself, ourselves, yourself, themselves, itself, himself, etc.

Examples:

  1. I MYSELF will bake a cake.

(myself – comes immediately after I)

 

  1. We OURSELVES chose the T-shirts.

(ourselves – comes immediately after we)

 

  1. The musicians THEMSELVES write the music.

(themselves – follows musicians)

 

  1. She HERSELF made all the toast.
