Pronouns Notes [Level-7]

 

Indefinite pronouns:

Used in a general way in place of any person or thing.

Never refer to a particular person or thing.

ONE – NONE – THEY – SOME – ALL – SOMEBODY – EVERYBODY – ETC are examples of indefinite pronouns.

Examples:

  1. ONE loves to watch good movies.

 

  1. EVERYBODY listened to the coach.

 

  1. NOBODY saw the kitten playing with the ball.

 

  1. NONE of the children understood the problem.

 

Distributive pronouns:

Refer to all persons or things at one time. Get DISTRIBUTED among all the persons or things.

EACH – EITHER – NEITHER are examples of distributive pronouns.

Examples:

  1. EACH of the songs was equally melodious.

(was – singular verb)

 

  1. I bought these pencils for three rupees EACH.

When EACH is written at the end of a sentence it usually follows a numeral (three)

 

  1. EITHER of you can go to the market,” said Mother.

(can go – singular verb)

 

  1. NEITHER of the children likes to sit at home.

(likes – singular verb)
