Past perfect continuous tense:

To express an action that started, continued and finished in the past.

Form of the verb = had + been + verb (ing).


  1. Last week the teacher had been telling you to submit your books.


  1. We had been studying for one exam the whole of last month.


  1. The lion is quiet today. It had been roaring angrily yesterday.
