We can join the two sentences in the following way:

Ravi AND Sheila are my friends.

AND – joining word – CONJUNCTION.

Some more examples:

  1. Dogs are pet animals.

Cats are pet animals.

Dogs AND cats are pet animals.

Uses of and:

  1. To join words/sentences of equal importance, value or quality.

Example:

The horse AND the cow are domestic animals.

(Horse - cow - both domestic animals. So, equal importance. So “AND”)

  1. We bought a banana, an apple, an orange, a peach, a pear, a kiwi fruit AND some grapes.
