Homophones Study Notes-1

Definition : Words having the same sound but different meanings and spellings are called Homophones.

Example:

1. son – someone’s male child

Example – I have two children. My son’s name is Amit & daughter’s name is Ravina.

sun – the star around which the Earth moves. It provides light and heat to the Earth

Example – The sun gives us heat and light. The sun is a big ball of fire

1. hour – a period of 60 minutes

Example – It took me one hour to reach my office.

our – belonging to us

Example – Our house is very close to the market.

2. tail – a part of an animal's body, sticking out from the base of the back.

Example – A dog has a curved tail.

1. your – belonging or relating to the person or group of people being spoken or written to

Example – Your dress is very pretty.

you’re – you are

Example – You’re looking very beautiful today.
