Pronouns Notes [Level-2]

 

This is Sunita. Sunita has bag on Sunita’s back. Sunita is going for a picnic. Sunita will be joined by Sunita’s friends. The friends will also bring bags. The friends will have food in the friends’ bags.

This is Sunita. SHE has a bag on HER back. SHE is going for a picnic. SHE will be joined by HER friends. THEY will also bring bags. THEY will have food in THEIR bags.

 

PRONOUNS: Words used in place of nouns.

 

Definition of pronouns and personal pronouns:

DEFINITION: PRO = for and NOUN = name (noun). Thus pronoun = (used) for a noun

 

The word that is used in place of a noun is called a pronoun.

Personal pronouns:  HE – SHE – IT

Examples:

  1. This is Sunita. SHE is carrying a bag.

(‘She’ is used in place of Sunita, who is a girl. Thus ‘She’ is a personal pronoun.)

 

  1. That is Harry. HE is reading a book.

(‘HE’ is used in place of Harry, who is a boy. Thus ‘HE’ is a personal pronoun)

 

  1. Look at that cat. IT is moving its tail.

(‘IT’ is used in place of cat, which is an animal. Thus ‘IT’ is a personal pronoun)

 

  1. Sheila bought a book. IT is blue in colour.

(‘IT’ is used in place of book, which is a thing. Thus ‘IT’ is a personal pronoun)
