  1. inferior × superior

inferior – not good or not as good as somebody or something else

example – That shop has inferior goods.

superior – better in quality than somebody or something else

example – Ankita was superior to other candidates for this job.

 

  1. hope × despair

hope – to want something to happen and think that it is possible

example – I hope to see him soon.

despair – the feeling of having lost all hope

example – Mohit gave up the struggle in despair.

 

  1. dusk × dawn

dusk – the time of day when the light has almost gone, but it is not yet dark

example – They arrived home as dusk was falling.

dawn – the time of day when light first appears

example – Saloni woke up just before dawn.

 

  1. economize × waste

economize – to use less money, time, etc. than you normally use

example – Old people often try to economize on their living.

waste – to use more of something than is necessary or useful

example – I don’t like wasting time.

 

  1. fortunate × unfortunate

fortunate – having or bringing an advantage, an opportunity, a piece of good luck, etc.

example – We were fortunate enough to get tickets for the movie.

unfortunate – having bad luck

example – Amita was unfortunate to lose in the final round.

generous – giving or willing to give freely

example – It was generous of her to pay for all of us.

mean – not willing to give or share things, especially money

example – Karan has always been mean with money.

 

  1. granted × refused

granted – used to show that you accept that something is true, often before you make another statement about it

example – She was granted an extra week to finish the work.

refused – to say that you will not do something that somebody has asked you to do

example – Nitika refused to let me help.

 

  1. guilty × innocent

guilty – feeling ashamed because you have done something that you know is wrong or have not done something that you should have done

example – I had feelings of guilt about leaving my kids and go to work.

innocent – not guilty of a crime, etc.

example – They have imprisoned an innocent person.

hinder – to make it more difficult for someone to do something

example – Bad weather hindered their rescue attempts.

aid – to help someone

example – My grandfather was breathing only with the aid of a ventilator.

 

  1. humble × proud

humble – showing you do not think that you are as important as other people

example – Sachin is a brilliant player, but still a very humble person.

proud – feeling that you are better and more important than other people

example – Ritesh was proud to receive the award.

 

  1. inhale × exhale

inhale – to take air, smoke, gas, etc. into your lungs as you breathe

example – Just close your eyes and inhale deeply.

exhale – to breathe out the air or smoke, etc. in your lungs

example – She exhaled deeply through her nose.

intentional – done deliberately

example – Ayub would never intentionally hurt anyone.

accidental – happening by chance; not planned

example – She accidentally broke the glass.

join – to fix or connect two or more things together

justice – the fair treatment of people

tenant – a person who pays rent for the use of a room, building, land, etc. to the person who owns it

like – to find something or somebody pleasant, attractive or of a good enough standard

dislike – to not like somebody or something

example – Sanjay dislikes being away from his family.

qualified – if you are qualified for something, you have the right training or skills to do it

example – She is well qualified for the job.

unqualified – not having the right knowledge, experience or qualifications to do something

example – She gave them her unqualified support.
