FORESTS AND DEFORESTATION

Forest and wild life:

  • Forests comprise an area of diverse and complex ecosystems consisting mainly of trees, shrubs and wild plants which house an extraordinary variety of communities of living organisms.
  • Forests are ‘biodiversity hotspots’ as they provide a natural terrestrial habitat for the existence of a wide variety of species of plants, animals and microorganisms within a particular environment.
  • Biodiversity is defined as existence of number of species or wide range of different life forms in an area.
