Asexual reproduction

ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION

  • It is the type of reproduction in which only a single parent is involved.
  • Generally shown by unicellular for example- bacteria, paramecium, amoeba etc.
  • Some lower multicellular organisms can also reproduce asexually like hydra, corals etc.

Budding

  • The new individuals develop as outgrowths of a cell membrane from a single parent which is known as a bud.
  • This type of asexual reproduction is called budding.
  • In hydra new individuals develop from the buds which may be more than one. These buds further develop and forms new individuals. Other example is yeast.

Binary Fission:

  • It is a type of asexual reproduction in which an animal reproduces by dividing into two individuals.
  • It is generally shown by unicellular organisms.
  • Example: bacteria, amoeba, paramecium etc.
  • Bacteria are single-celled organisms.
  • The process begins with the division of its nucleus into two daughter nuclei.
  • This is followed by division of its cellular body into two, each part receiving a nucleus.
  • Finally, two bacteria are produced from one parent bacteria.
  • This type of asexual reproduction in which an animal reproduces by dividing into two individuals is called binary fission.
