Digestion

• The process of digestion starts in the mouth itself where the food is mixed with saliva.

• Digestion is a process that breaks the things that we eat into molecules small enough to be absorbed by cells that line the digestive tract.

• The human digestive tract (alimentary canal)is about 9 meters (30 feet) in length. It consists of:

1. Mouth and buccal cavity
2. Oesophagus (food pipe)
3. Stomach
4. Small intestine
5. Large intestine
6. Anus
