CELL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
-
The cell in a living organism is the basic structural unit.
-
Each organ is further made up of smaller parts called tissues.
-
A tissue is a group of similar cells performing a specific function.
-
Many tissues together constitute an organ, organ forms organ system which further co-ordinates to form an organism.
-
Each tissue, organ, organ system performs different functions in living system.
For example:
-
In the digestive system, different organs like mouth, stomach, large intestine perform different functions such as ingestion, digestion and absorption respectively.
-
Each living organism shows a body organization which has different levels. The levels proceed as cell, tissue, organ, organ system.
-
Each part is having a specific role and all parts function together in co-ordination to perform a particular process of the living system.
-
Each cell is also made up of different organelles which functions together in co-ordination with each other hence survival of unicellular as well as multicellular organisms is possible.
