India Gate
Introduction - India Gate is situated in the capital city of India i.e. Delhi. It is a 42 meter high gateway with an arch of 138 feet. It is located at Rajpath, New Delhi. India Gate is constructed as a memorial and was built in the memory of 90,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I. Today it is one of the most famous monuments in Delhi. It is made of red stone and has the name "INDIA" written on both the sides.
History - India Gate was originally called “All India War Memorial”. This monument was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The foundation stone was laid on 10 February 1921. It was completed in the year 1931.
We can see Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of the immortal warrior), under the arch of India gate. It has been burning day and night since 1971. It reminds us about the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Indo-Pakistan War in December 1971.
