  1. stair – a step

example – The children ran up and down the stairs so one stair was broken.

stare – to look for a long time with the eyes wide open

example – Don’t stare at children like this when they are playing.

 

  1. check – to make certain that something or someone is correct

example – In exams you should always check your answer sheet once more before submitting it.

cheque – a printed form, used instead of money, to make payments

example – Can I pay you by cheque?

I received a cheque of Rs. 10000/– from Mr. Gupta.

 

  1. board – a flat surface used for a special purpose

example – Put this notice on the board so everybody can see it !

bored – not interested

example – I am getting bored doing the same thing again and again.

 

  1. cue – a signal for somebody to do something

example – I was given no cue when to start the program.

queue – a line

example – There were 50 people in the queue to collect the tickets for movie at the ticket window.

There was a long queue on the bus stand.

example – The quiz master asked 5 questions but none of the participants knew the answer to question no. 4

example – Though my dad plays well but I beat him in chess yesterday.

example –I drink carrot and beet juice every morning, It’s rich in vitamins.

example – This medicine will lessen your pain.

lesson – a time when someone teaches you a subject or skill

example – Mrs Meera is my music teacher. She gives piano lessons.

 

  1. for – intended to be given to

example – I have bought a cake for you.

fore – situated at or towards the front

example – Rama has always been to the fore at the moments of crisis.

four – one more than three, the number 4

example – I have booked the seats for four persons in the cinema hall.
