Possessive Adjectives

I = MY – WE = OUR – YOU = YOUR – HE = HIS – SHE = HER – THEY = THEIR

Example:

  1. This is my key. Give it to me.

 

  1. These are our instruments. We practice every day.

 

  1. Those are your gifts. Pick them up.

 

  1. The boy is carrying his lunch to the table.

 

  1. The girl is giving her mother a card.

 

  1. The children are jumping to eat their ice cream cone.

 

Its – the odd one out

He – his                She – her

IT – ITS – This is the possessive adjective for the pronoun “IT.” and NOT

IT’S – which means – IT IS… So never confuse the two.

 

Examples:

The cat is drinking milk from its bowl. (its = possessive adjective)

It’s drinking quite fast. (it’s = short form of it is)

 

The horse and its rider are fast. (its = possessive adjective)

It’s a race he has to win. (it’s = short form of it is)

 

The pen has fallen out of its holder. (its = possessive adjective)

It’s there; on the floor. (it’s = short form of it is)
