  1. quiet – making very little noise

example – Smriti spoke in a quiet voice so as not to wake others.

quite – a little or a lot but not completely

example – I'm quite tired but I can certainly work a little more.

 

  1. cereal – One of various types of grass that produce grains that can be eaten. It is also used to make flour. For example; maize, wheat barley etc..

example – I like to eat a bowl of cereal every morning.

serial – sequential

example – She enjoys watching the latest serial of Zee T.V.

 

  1. loan – lend

example – I’m trying to get a Rs. 5 lac loan to start my own business.

lone – having no companions; solitary or single

example – The lone sailor was crossing the Pacific Ocean.

 

  1. knead – to press and stretch dough, wet clay etc. with your hands to make it ready to us

example Knead the dough until smooth !

need – desire

example – I am in need of a good tutor for my daughter.

 

  1. foul – extremely unpleasant

example Foul drinking water was the reason behind the epidemic

fowl – a bird such as a chicken that is kept for food.

example – I don’t like the soup made of meat and fowl.

 

  1. feat – something difficult needing a lot of skill, strength, bravery, etc. to achieve it

example – The Taj Mahal is a remarkable feat of architecture.

feet – plural of ‘foot’ which means the part of the body at the bottom of the leg on which a person or animal stands

example – My feet are aching as I’ve been on my feet all the day.

 

  1. cast – to choose actors to play particular parts in a play, film or show

example – Monish Behl was often cast as a villain in the movies.

caste – a system of dividing Hindu society into classes, or any of these classes

example – The caste system is a part of Indian culture but I don’t like this caste discrimination.

 

  1. faint – not strong or clear

example – I could feel the faint smell of perfume in this room.

feint – to pretend to move in a particular direction in order to deceive a competitor

example – The fast food chain was continually being imitated, so the CEO feinted a marketing maneuver twist to throw off the competitors.

 

  1. brows – eyebrows

example – "Don't argue !" said teacher, furrowing her eye brows.

browse – look around

example – I browse through fashion magazines to find a new hairstyle.

 

  1. cord – strong thick string or thin rope

example – I need a cord to tie the parcel.

chord – musical tone

example – The opening chord of the music is very melodious.

 

  1. rhyme – a word that has the same sound or ends with the same sound as another word.

example – You can rhyme ‘girl’ with ‘curl’.

rime – hoar frost

example – I saw thick rime on the grass.
