An element is a substance that is made up of only one kind of atom and cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means.
For example:
Silver, gold, aluminum, hydrogen, oxygen, etc.
An atomis the smallest particle of an element and all the atoms of an element have similar properties.
The properties of an element depend on the properties of constituting atoms.
For example:
Some of the properties of silver are that it is lustrous, silver- coloured, light in weight, good conductor of electricity, can be moulded into wires or any shape which is due to the property of its constituting atoms.
Other examples: Gold, aluminium, iron, copper etc.
