Ingestion:

• Taking large pieces of food into the body.

Digestion:

• Breaking down the food into simpler form.

Absorption:

• Taking up the soluble products of digestion into the body cells.

Assimilation:

• Using the absorbed materials.

Egestion:

• Eliminating the undigested food material.
