  1. altar – table in a church

example – The priest walked up to the altar.

alter – to change

example – My dress was loose so I asked the tailor to alter it.

 

  1. tied – past tense of ‘tie’ which means to fasten together two ends of a piece of string or other long thin material

example – Vihang tied a knot in the rope.

tide – the rise and fall of the sea that happens twice every day

example – The boat was washed up on the beach by the tide.

 

  1. knight – a soldier of the Middle Ages trained to fight on a horse

example – In the story the knight got married to a beautiful princess.

night – the part of every 24 – hour period when it is dark because there is very little light from the sun

example – I have to go to a party tonight.

 

  1. main – larger, more important, or having more influence than others of

the same type

example – I like driving on the main road.

mane – a growth of long hair on the neck of a mammal

example – He had a thick mane of hair, going silver at the sides, looking very distinguished.

 

  1. earn – to receive money as payment for the work that you do

urn – a tall decorated vase for storing a cremated person’s ashes or a large metal container used to serve tea.
