Introduction

 

First person: the speaker

First person refers to the speaker himself or a group that includes the speaker (i.e., Imewe, and us).
 

In the subjective case, the singular form of the first person is “I,” and the plural form is “we.”

 

Second person: the listener

Second person refers to the speaker's audience (i.e., you).

 

Third person: (the person we are talking about)

Whenever you use a noun or pronoun, it is in the third person.

With third person singular, the pronouns reflect gender.

  1. The Present Simple of be is like this:

Short forms

I'm__       you're__    he/she/it's

We're          you're       they're

 

  1. B. We use be ( is/am/are) in many situations:

  1. When we describe or talk about people, places, animals or things or we say about our likings or disliking.

Example :

Siya is my friend. She is a guitarist.

Both of you are very good singers.

Pumpkin is my favorite vegetable.

I am 15.

 

  1. When we talk about the time, day and weather:

Example :

It is 9 ó’clock

It is Monday today.

It is a sunny day.

This is a beautiful scene.

 

  1. When we talk about our profession or job

Example :

They are musicians.

My father is a dentist.

I am a teacher.

Aryan is a brave soldier.

 

  1. When we want to express our feelings

Example:

He is very sad today.

My parents are angry with me

You are very happy today.

Aman is frustrated.

I am Siya.

I'm from Delhi.

Delhi is in India.

It's five o'clock now.

It's very cold today.           

I'm 20 .

My brother's 18.

He is a doctor.                    

Both my parents are also doctors.

         

We use the short form when we are speaking or writing a friendly letter:

We're on holiday in Goa

It's very hot here.

 

Using the long form in speaking often implies emphasis.

We can use a short form after a singular noun, but not if the noun ends in ch, sh, x, z, s

Example :

My taxi’s here.          

This pineapple cake's nice.       

This watch is very expensive.

The dish is very tasty.               

That buzz is loud.
