SYNTHETIC FIBRES

  • Man made fibres is called synthetic fibres. It is made up of synthetic polymer or processed natural polymer.

Advantages of synthetic fibres:

  • Fabrics made up of synthetic fibres dry up quickly, are durable, and easy to maintain.
  • Synthetic fabrics are readily available and can handle heavy loads without breaking.
  • Most fabrics have good elasticity
  • Most fabrics of synthetic fibres do not wrinkle easily

Disadvantages of Synthetic Fibres:

  • Most fabrics made from synthetic fibres require careful ironing as they melt very easily.
  • Most of the fabrics made from synthetic fibres absorb very little moisture. They become sticky when the body sweats, which makes them uncomfortable to wear in hot weather.
  • Most of the fabrics made from synthetic fibres catch fire very easily. Synthetic fibres melt on heating so the fabric melts and sticks to the body of the person wearing it. Therefore, one should not wear synthetic clothes while working in the kitchen or in a laboratory.
