Place Value (Reverse)



Place value is the basis of our entire number system.We use decimal number system in our everyday life.Decimal number system means there are 10 digits we use . These are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9.  A place value system is one in which the position of a digit in a number determines its value. In the standard system, called base ten ( decimal number system), each place represents ten times the value of the place to its right.

In our decimal number system, the value of a digit depends on its place, or position, in the number. Each place has a value of 10 times the place to its right or 1/10 times its left. A number in standard form is separated into groups of two digits or three digits using commas. In India grouping of 2 digits is done and in western countries grouping of 3 digits is done.

● The face value of a digit for any place in the given number is the value of the digit itself. ● Place value of a digit = (face value of the digit) × (value of the place) 1. The place value of every one-digit number is the same as and equal to its face value.

In number 456; place value of 5 is 10 and face value is 5.
